Ever wondered where the name "Sarasota" comes from?

It’s actually a bit of a mystery! Some believe it originated from the indigenous Calusa language, while others think early Spanish explorers named it after a Mediterranean town. The first known reference was "Zarazote" on an old Spanish map from 1763—but no one can quite agree on how it evolved into “Sarasota.”

Either way, this city has a name as unique as its beaches.
