In Longboat Key, our commitment to maintaining a safe and thriving community never wavers. Recent improvements to our utility infrastructure highlight our proactive approach to preparing for the future. As a dedicated real estate broker in this stunning area, I am excited to share how these changes impact our community and real estate market.

Utility Upgrades for a Safer Future

Florida Power & Light (FPL) has initiated a transformative project aimed at raising transformers on 24-inch concrete pads across Longboat Key, particularly in flood-prone areas. These upgrades target transformers that failed during Hurricane Idalia, which impacted about 400 residents.

Why This Matters:

Enhanced Resilience: By elevating transformers, we reduce the risk of power outages during storms, ensuring a more reliable power supply for residents. This initiative underscores our dedication to community safety and well-being.

Phased Implementation:

Phase 2: Extending from Longboat Pass Bridge to Dream Island Road, this phase is now operating on the underground system. While some infrastructure is still pending removal, progress is steady.

Phase 3: From the county line to Country Club Shores, all transformers are energized, with service conversions nearing completion.

Phase 4: Covering Dream Island Road to the county line, this phase is over halfway through energizing transformers. Service conversions will follow soon after.

Benefits for Homeowners and Buyers:

Increased Property Value: Improved infrastructure boosts property values, making homes more attractive to potential buyers.

Peace of Mind: Knowing that your home is protected against storm-related outages enhances the appeal of Longboat Key as a desirable place to live.

Whatโ€™s Next:

FPL has committed to removing all existing poles by the end of the year, pending no unforeseen delays. The project remains on schedule for island-wide service conversions by October.
