SBA Releases Names of Fla. Companies with PPP Loans

By Kerry Smith

A searchable database contains partial information on 42K Fla. company names that received more than $150K – but no business names for smaller loans.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida has 42,207 businesses that received at least $150,000 in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans from the Small Business Administration (SBA), according to SBA.

However, the SBA released limited information about the loans. It names all companies that received over $150,000, but it only provides a range rather than the exact amount for each loan. And for companies that borrowed less than $150,000 through the PPP program, it doesn’t release names at all.

The list is presented in a searchable U.S. database that can be narrowed down by state (link to Florida), zip code, company name, business type or loan size. Nationally, the program has approved 661,218 loans through 4,318 lenders. The average company size was 48 employees.

To gauge the amount of money loaned through the PPP program to Florida’s biggest cities, the Orlando Business Journal manually located each loan and calculated amounts by hand. The editor said a list was difficult to create because individual lenders submitted the information to SBA and they didn’t consistently report the same information.

OBJ estimate of top PPP loans to Florida cities

  • Miami: 44,742 loans worth $3.29 billion

  • Orlando: 20,342 loans worth $1.76 billion

  • Tampa: 18,782 loans worth $1.93 billion

  • Jacksonville: 13,988 loans worth $1.36 billion

  • Fort Lauderdale: 11,046 loans worth $1.11 billion
